Have a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited institution? You can earn teaching licensure and the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) at the same time. This program is ideal for college graduates in many fields who believe teaching is their calling. The program offers small interactive classes as well as hybrid and online options. Our program faculty are seasoned education leaders who can offer career assistance with job connections in Roanoke and the surrounding region. Plus, Hollins鈥 student teaching grants make our program unique and affordable.
Courses
Licensure and M.A.T.
To earn a graduate degree in education, students are required to have 40 credit hours plus student teaching. Students may complete the degree and student teaching within one and a half to two years of full-time studies. The program also accepts part-time students. Faculty teach courses during evenings at times compatible with the average working person鈥檚 schedule. Students have five years to meet degree requirements.
Licensure Only Program
Want to earn licensure to teach in Virginia or other states, but don鈥檛 want to pursue an M.A.T.? Hollins鈥 graduate program in education offers college grads this option. The program鈥檚 length depends on the courses needed to meet requirements for a teaching license. The average length of time is three to four semesters, which includes course work and student teaching.
Costs
Tuition
- $440 per credit hour
- Licensed, practicing teachers receive a $100 per course discount.
Fees
- Students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $100 at the beginning of each semester (credited toward the semester鈥檚 tuition charges).
- Technology fees:
- $170 (part time, fall/spring term)
- $340 (full time, fall/spring term)
- $170 (summer)
- Full-time students are required to pay a health services fee each term ($197.50)
Student scholarships, loans, and grants are available. To apply for these, students must complete the annually.
Scholarship Opportunities
Federal Teach Grant
Hollins is pleased to announce our participation in the Federal TEACH Grant Program which began with the 2014-15 academic year. This non-need based award provides up to $4,000 in grant funding per year to students who plan to become teachers, and meet the requirements.
Hollins Student Teaching Grant
Through the Hollins student teaching grant, students enrolled in the 12-credit student teaching course receive a $5,220 grant to cover the cost of those credits.
