Hollins was among the eight universities represented by undergraduate researchers at the (VAPS) Spring Conference, held April 19 in Staunton.

VAPS seeks to advance psychology as a science in all of its interdisciplinary and applied aspects at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. The professional association promotes the exchange of experience and research among psychologists through discussions, presentations, and publications as well as by educating the public about the purposes and goals of the science of psychology.

Hollins psychology majors presented their research during conference poster sessions. These included:

• “The Influence of Deadline and Distraction on Children’s Task Performance,” Willow Seymour ’24, Olivia Perrine ’25, Hildana Abebe ’25, and Assistant Professor of Psychology Seung-Hee Han (advisor).
• “Birth Order and Children’s Compliance Tendencies,” Olivia Olson ’26, Anna Young ’24, and Assistant Professor of Psychology Seung-Hee Han (advisor).
• Competitive Stress During Consolidation on False Memory Formation,” Madison Brousseau ’25, Professor of Psychology Bonnie Bowers and Assistant Professor of Psychology Alex Wooten (advisors).
• “Working Memory in College Students with and without Neurodevelopmental Disorders,” Riley Eller’24 and Professor of Psychology Bonnie Bowers (advisor).
• “Interpersonal Relationships, Stigma, Knowledge, and Perceptions of Alzheimer’s Disease,” Keegan Clark ’24 and Professor of Psychology Bonnie Bowers (advisor).
• “COVID-19 Impact and Associated Changes on Relational and Health Factors,” Zeina Ghanem ’24 and Professor of Psychology Bonnie Bowers (advisor).
• “Background Colors Effects on Perceived Attractiveness, Help-Seeking, and Helping Behavior,” Zeina Ghanem ’24 and Professor Psychology Bonnie Bowers (advisor).
  

In addition to Hollins, students from Eastern Mennonite University, George Mason University, James Madison University, Liberty University, Mary Baldwin University, Radford University, and the University of Mary Washington presented at the spring conference.
